As Chairman of the Governing Body (the “Board of Governors”) of this great centre for learning, I take this opportunity to applaud the Principal and her team of instruction and support professionals who daily step forward to develop in our students, the knowledge, the critical thinking and the skills they need to make this, our world, a better place.
As an Aided school within the Bermuda Public School System, The Berkeley Institute functions within a set of Core Values endorsed by the Bermuda Government and designed to offer diverse and relevant programming that meets the needs of the individual student. The Board of Governors is therefore immensely proud that the application and commitment of teachers, students and parents in this process has over many years, been consistently sanctioned though its accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
There can be no doubt that the leadership and capabilities of The Berkeley Institute to improve student outcomes played a major role in our selection as a pilot Signature School in the Government’s re-design of the public education system which is scheduled to be launched in September 2022.
As we process through this and the coming years and though challenged by a pandemic and other dynamics, I am mindful as always of the aweful privilege we have to fulfill the vision of the Founders of the Berkeley Educational Society to provide, through new technology and innovation, a quality education to each and every student, regardless of race, creed or gender.
In conclusion, and as we welcome each new intake of students, I proudly celebrate the illustrious alumni of The Berkeley Institute whose contributions, after more that 125 years, continue to shape the lansdscape of every aspect of our community and beyond our shores.
