In order to provide security and to maintain the integrity of data, The Berkeley Institute electronic policy is, all Electronic Devices connecting to our Network Infrastructure are subject to the following.

 

  1. Internet services are provided as centrally controlled services and are therefore only allowed to specific categorized Sites that have been identified as productive for our environment. Please note that all Chat Sites are prohibited (not allowed) at Berkeley and therefore restricted from access to all students. Accessing illicit sites such as pornography is strictly prohibited.
  2. Students you may access Berkeley e-mail on and off campus via The Berkeley Institute website site http://webmail.berkeley.bm.You will also receive an electronic device manual. Please read it carefully.
  3. All service provided on our infrastructure are centrally monitored and policed. Improper use of any of our services would result in disciplinary measures enforced by the Administration office. Administration reserves the right to disable the school account of any student who fails to use their electronic device responsibility and in accordance with the BYOD policy. This includes students playing games, surfing the web, checking e-mails, talking on chat rooms, Skyping, refusing to turn off or close their laptops at the request of the teacher when classes are in session.

 

The Berkeley Institute website http://webmail.berkeleybda.bm. allows parents direct access to your sons and daughters. Therefore parents can e-mail appointments and other important information directly to them. In addition parents, please access Parent Connect through the Ministry of Education’s Power School which makes it possible for parents to keep track of student’s academic performance and attendance on a daily basis.

 

Restrictions and Excluded Items:

No Cell Phones! Cell phones are prohibited and MAY NOT be used in the B.Y.O.D. program.

 

No cellular/data service on tablets. Parents are asked NOT to activate data service on students’ tablets.

 

Students and parents will be required to must sign the school’s Acceptable use policy.

 

 

BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE (B.Y.O.D.)

All students are required to bring laptops or tablets to school every day to be used in their classes. The Berkeley Institute no longer serves as a vendor for the purchase of any electronic devices. Parents are responsible for purchasing tablets or laptops for student use from a vendor of their choice. ISD requires students to register their approved devices during the first two weeks of school. More information will follow in due course.

 

Suggested types/models:
Tablets 10 inch or larger with a keyboard, such as Microsoft Surface Pro or laptops with a min 10 inch screen, running Windows or Apple operating systems (Windows 7 or higher).

  • 10 inch or larger loaded with IOS 7 operating system or higher
  • Android compatible tablet 10 inch or larger
  • Memory: 2 Gig minimum
  • Screen size: 10” or larger
  • Battery life : 6 hours or more
  • Browser: Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer

 

All tablets must have Wi-Fi capability.

Service Advice:

  • Be aware that hardware support for the tablets and laptops will be via the vendors. It is therefore advisable that the tablets be secured locally, to have access to local support.
  • Add student tablets/laptops to household content insurance to protect against loss or theft.
  • Wherever possible, purchase enhanced warranties from the vendor to cover the possibility of cracked screens.
  • All tablets/laptops should have an active subscription to an anti-virus program.

 

Network and Internet Acceptable Use Agreement and Application

 

STUDENT

I have read the terms and conditions of the Berkeley Institute Internet Acceptable Use Agreement. I understand and will abide by the stated terms and conditions. I further understand that any violation of these regulations is unethical and may constitute a criminal offense. Should I commit any violation, my access privileges may be revoked, school disciplinary action may be taken, and/or appropriate legal action may be pursued.

If the applicant is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must also read and sign this agreement and application. The agreement must be renewed each academic year.

 

PARENT

As the parent or guardian of this student, I have read the terms and conditions of the Berkeley Institute Internet Acceptable Use Agreement. I understand that this access is designed for educational purposes and that the Berkeley Institute has taken precautions to eliminate controversial material. However, I also recognize it is impossible for the School to restrict access to all controversial materials and I will not hold them responsible for materials acquired on the Internet. Further, I accept full responsibility for supervision if and when my child’s use is not a school setting. I hereby give permission for my child to use the Internet services and certify that the information contained on this form is correct.
